I worked as an XR Interaction Design Intern at the head quarters in Munich, Germany, with the team focused on building products for the future (5-10 years). My work involved using tools such as Unity (C#), Blender, Figma, and Adobe Suite to develop next-generation augmented reality products.
Achivements
- Built and implemented fully functional XR products.
- Collaborated on making technical achievements through Design Systems, Assets and Case Scenarios. This enabled me to propose and collaborate on multiple patents.
- Explored the state of the art of XR –specially AR– to deliver different implementations that can be further developed into products and use-cases.
Takeaways
- Rapid prototyping and sketching to avoid loss in translation. While working in cross-functional teams I found sketching and fast prototyping to be crucial to clearly communicate my ideas and advance the project with the least friction possible.
- Realistic schedule and clear priorities to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Very early on in the role I had to organize and maintain a schedule that allowed me to work intelligently through all my deadlines and enable flexibility for sudden external requests.
- Communicate - Ask, inquire, question. All of my time at BMW has been spent pushing myself outside of my comfort zone by inquiring from different fields that form the XR environments being built. This has enabled me both to contribute to the projects and to expand my own knowledge, capabilities, and to surpass limitations.
